Abstract

This working paper delves into the exploration of alternative solutions for the European road freight transport sector. It places a specific focus on Electric Road Systems (ERS) as a promising alternative, evaluating the prospects for ERS expansion throughout Europe, particularly emphasizing essential routes and corridors. Moreover, the paper underscores the crucial role of European coordination and examines the significance of flagship projects while navigating the fine balance between a centrally coordinated strategy and incremental, technology-driven advancements in expanding ERS infrastructure.
