The network integration of electric vehicles will become more and more important, because sooner or later the required amounts of energy will also be relevant for load curves and network load limits. This marks the beginning of a new phase for the energy sector: There will be a demand for charging electric vehicles in a time-controlled and grid-friendly way. This form of network integration promises synergies that enable cost reductions for vehicle users, a higher market penetration of electromobility and accelerated system integration of renewable energies.

Whether such network services can be established depends largely on viable business models. In a study, IKEM identified and improved corresponding business models. In addition to a purely economic and monetary assessment, the aim of the project is to show economic, energy and climate policy synergies. In addition, IKEM has developed recommendations for an adaptation of the legal and political framework to harmonize the business and political goals. IKEM also pointed out further research needs in the field of vehicle, charging and energy technology.
