Hydrogen is expected to play a key role in energy supply in Germany and around the world. In a study commissioned by Zukunft Gas, IKEM examines the legal and economic framework necessary for the successful creation of a hydrogen economy in Germany.

The study identifies the most important obstacles to the development of a hydrogen economy as well as possible measures to overcome them. Using this analysis, IKEM developed concrete legal policy measures and recommendations for decision-makers.

In the study, IKEM researchers conclude that a uniform European definition of hydrogen and a system of guarantees of origin for trade are key elements for the development of the hydrogen economy. The study also emphasises that the inclusion of hydrogen in the Building Energy Act should be a priority.
