BioM0876

In BioM0876, IKEM investigates the basis for the economic operation of biomethane CHPs under the subsidy conditions of the EEG 2023.

Biogas plant

Projekt

Biomethane is to be used as a substitution for fossil natural gas, particularly when little electricity is available from photovoltaics and wind energy. According to the Renewable Energy Sources Act 2023, the entitlement to state funding for biomethane CHP plants is limited to ten per cent of the possible full load hours – so 876 hours. This new market situation poses both challenges and opportunities for the entire process chain, from biogas production to processing, transport and use.

Against this background, the research project analyses possible options for players in the biomethane market. As part of the project, IKEM investigates the legal framework conditions for the operation of biomethane cogeneration plants and carries out a scientific analysis of the legal factors that influence the determination of biomethane prices.
