Dr Simon Schäfer-Stradowsky, born in 1982, is a legal expert specialised in innovative energy and climate law. Since 2011, he has helped to establish IKEM as a leading research institute in this field. He has since delivered presentations and released numerous publications on the topic of climate change, serving as a form of translator between politics and law. His main research includes support regimes for renewable energies, the transition to a more flexible electricity market and the establishment of a legal framework for green hydrogen and ammonia. Another focus is international and national climate law. Dr Schäfer-Stradowsky studied law at the Free University of Berlin and subsequently worked as a lawyer in the German Bundestag and at the law firm Becker Büttner Held, where he specialised in energy law. From 2014 to 2023 he was managing director of IKEM and completed his doctorate with a thesis on the law governing the heat transition in the building sector in 2021 at the University of Greifswald, supervised by Prof Michael Rodi. Since 2023, Dr. Schäfer-Stradowsky has been a member of IKEM’s board and serves as the institute’s Treasurer. As Executive Member of the Board, he also manages day-to-day operations of the institute. Dr. Schäfer-Stradowsky is a co-editor of the journal Klima und Recht [Climate and Law] and the textbook Energierecht & Energiewirklichkeit [Energy Law & Energy Reality]. In addition, he is a lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin and a member of numerous committees and boards.
