Johann Helmann is a Senior Research Associate in the mobility department at IKEM. His research deals with the effectiveness of climate change mitigation measures in the transport sector (shift-M), approaches to promoting sustainable mobility in Europe (MobiLR), the expansion of e-charging infrastructure (FAMOUS) and the current state of research on the use of artificial intelligence in the transport sector (FIS).
He completed his bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning at the HafenCity University in Hamburg. Furthermore, he obtained a Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning at the Technical University of Berlin and a Magister in Urban Planning and Mobility at the University of Buenos Aires as part of a Dual Degree Programme. In his master’s thesis, he dealt with traffic experiments in existing neighborhoods as an instrument for establishing sustainable mobility.
Before joining IKEM, he worked for the development organization of Hamburg’s new district HafenCity as well as for the traffic planning office ARGUS. In the context of these positions, he especially worked on planning guidelines, mobility concepts and in the strategic transport development planning.
