Prof. Dr. Barbara Praetorius is Professor of Sustainability, Environmental Economics and Policy at HTW Berlin. An economist with a doctorate in political science, she was co-chair of the “Growth, Structural Change and Employment” commission set up by the German government to phase out coal-fired power generation. Until 2017, she was deputy director at the think tank Agora Energiewende. From 2008 to 2014, she headed the Policy and Strategy staff unit at the Association of German Municipal Enterprises (VKU), after working as a senior researcher and project manager at DIW Berlin from 1992 to 2008.
She conducts research on sustainability innovations and indicators, climate and energy policy, and decarbonization transformation pathways.
